March 25, 2019, Monday
The ALS Association of Texas asked me to be their ALS Hero for their annual clay shooting event. So I said YES.
The day was beautiful with little wind and more sun. Huge turn out and lots of fun being had. Most teams were out their to get outside with friends and take aim at all kinds of clay targets.
Riding around on custom four wheelers made accessibility to each team in the mists of action. Some were serious shooters and others should keep their day job.
There is something positive and ‘charging’ that arising when targets are hit and when missed there is knowledge that another target is coming.
Luckily I put on sunscreen as I was out on the range for hours. And then I came back to the event HQ and my parents were inside the club enjoying the air condition.
I now know what 300 pounds of crawfish looks like!! Wow. Our table had to be instructed on how to eat them. Lots of work for small pieces of meat and the juices in their heads was good. As I showed my daughter one, the look on her face was priceless.
The opportunity to talk with this group of people that took their time and money to come out on a Monday afternoon had come and I wanted to get their attention. They were still eating.
So I started out with a bible verse, “with God All things are possible” Matthew 19:26. All eyeballs were on me now and the place was silent. God had given me their attention.
My emotions got the best of me but it only heighten their attention. I discussed the gratitude of Lou Gehrig and his record that held for almost 60 years. Talked about how Lou was the Iron Horse and still ALS found him.
The ALS Clinic and how the ALSA was always there and how their HUGS, SMILES and HEARTS meant more than anything.
A Caregiver is just awesome. Gave my awesome wife a standing ovation. And ended with With God all things are possible….even taking the ALSA out of business.
They handed me an award/trophy and it is special. So glad God gave me the courage to do this and I hope I was able to Impact lives.
Since 1990, we have had a USAA account as both of our Fathers served their country. We were always taught the you get what you pay for in life. So, our premiums were adjusted for various car types and inflation throughout the 25 plus years but never too much, so we thought.
Adding other services such as homeowners, renters (for my mother-in-law), personal belongings, and RV have decreased or ‘discounted’ our premiums by thousands of dollars per year.
Today, we added our 17-year old son to the policy. Our total premium escalated from $4,000 to $6,400. Not sure if I am getting what I am paying for now.
Progressive with same coverages and deductibles is at $4,000 without any ‘discounts’!!!!
USAA will not negotiate. I mean never. All they do is ask you to lower coverage and increase deductibles.
Maybe that should be their new slogan “USAA protection through increased deductibles and lower coverage”
Now after many discussions with Family and Friends, Teenagers are given high rates with USAA. First time for us to add a teenager.
Where to go now: Check out the competitive companies such as Progressive, Amica, Costco Ameriprise, and your local Insurance guys.
It seems We are the exception as we have never changed Insurance in 25 years. Loyalty equals nothing.
